EXTERIOR MODIFICATION REQUEST - CHECKLIST

Use this checklist to ensure that your EXTERIOR MODIFICATION REQUEST is ready for review. This checklist is in the same sequential order of the request form so that you may check off each detail as you go.
DESCRIBE IMPROVEMENT (required):
Have you explained what the improvement, addition or change will be or what it is currently if already existing? (please refrain from putting see attached/see survey or leaving blank)
SKETCH, DRAWING OR PHOTO (required):
Have you attached a sketch, drawing, color photo or brochure color photo of what the improvement/addition will look like once completed? If it already exists please attach a color photo of the existing improvement and/or addition.
Have you listed the dimensions for each improvement/addition being submitted? Check that you have included the width, length and any heights applicable. This includes slab and/or decking thickness as well. Detailed permit requirement information is available on the City of Katy website.
For Play Sets/Forts: Have you listed each standing deck height on the request form? Some have multiple standing platform decks –x. 4’, 5’6” and 6’. (the standing deck height is the height from the ground to the top of any standing decks)
Have you included the peak height? The peak height of any structure or item is the very tip top of the roof, structure or item and the ceiling height refers to the height from the ground to the ceiling under a roof top structure. This applies to modification requests for Patio Covers, Gazebos, Outdoor Kitchens, etc.
LOCATION OF IMPROVEMENT (required):
State where the improvement/addition will be located or if already existing, where it is currently located. – Ex. Front Yard, Backyard, Side Yard, Driveway, etc. (please refrain from putting see attached/see survey or leaving blank)
LOT SURVEY/PLOT PLAN OF HOME (required):
This information must be attached to the Exterior Modification Request form. The plat is found in your closing documents – it is usually a legal size document with your property address listed.
Draw in the location of the improvement and/or addition onto this document specifically. Per your documents, this document is necessary for each modification request being submitted for approval – (EX. Exterior paint, replace/add gutters, replace fence, extend fence, gazebos, trampolines, etc.) *Applications will be denied without this document with the location of the modification/addition drawn in.
All materials pertaining to the improvement must be listed stating what it is made of, consists of or will be constructed of in order for the Committee to review accordingly. If paint or stain will be used – the color must be stated and a paint/stain chip/sample must be attached. If the materials match the existing residence this may be listed, but the other requested information is still necessary in order to review. *attachments/spec sheets included with the request form should reflect the materials listed on the request form. (Please refrain from putting see attached/see survey or leaving blank)
A permit may be required depending on the type of modification you are requesting. If a permit is required, it must be approved by the City of Katy before a modification request will be approved.

Once you have an approved City of Katy permit, please scan and attach a copy to the modification request form
